Kalahari sunset with the silhouette of herds of Cape and Blue Wildebeest, Livingstone Eland and Gemsbok on the horizon is a never to be forgotten experience. Many more smaller species such as Steenbok and Duiker are also sighted regularly on game drives. There is an abundance of birdlife for the birding enthusiast around the lodge and guests also enjoy the occasional sightings of nocturnal animals like the Aardvark, Brown Hyena, Porcupine, and Jackal that visit the large floodlit water pan.
Grassland Bushman Lodge is located on the western side of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in the Ghanzi district of Botswana. The lodge is in a private wildlife reserve of about 15 000 hectares. Access to the Grassland Bushman Lodge is via private airstrip. From South Africa, Air Botswana flies to Gaborone, Maun, and Windhoek. From these destinations, chartered flights can be organized to the private airstrip.
Self-drive in a 4 X 4 vehicle is is also possible. Alternatively, guests traveling by car can be collected by the lodge staff in Ghanzi (secured parking is available) and then transferred to the lodge.

Day and afternoon drives with tracker and guide to understand the abundant life in the Kalahari. The desert flora and fauna is varied to that of the Okavango delta and Chobe. The drives across the plains of the Kalahari by both day and in the afternoon reveals the glory of this unique environment, in which water is plentiful, but always just beneath the earth’s surface.

Sandgrouse experience - the sand-grouse flocks visit the waterhole each morning and it is a mesmerising sight to view them in the act.

No childcare/baby-sitters are available at this property. Children must be under the care of their parents at all times. However, activities to include children can be organised on request. Ranchers around the reserve experience constant conflict with the many predators. Grasslands provides an alternative to the traditional response of killing the predators on sight – the predators are captured and brought to the 10-acre enclosure behind the lodge. Consequently, the enclosure offers guests the unique opportunity to walk with Cape Hunting Dogs. It also allows superb viewing of the legendarily large Kalahari lion in their natural environment.
Families travelling with children under the age of 11 years to Grasslands Bushman Lodge are required to book a private vehicle for the duration of their stay.
The best vacations are when you are in the wilderness and are not disturbed by the banes of technology. The quite and remoteness of the Grasslands Bushman Lodge is an ideal for a vacation away from the drudgery of a concrete jungle. The main guest areas can be divided into three; an enormous bar area that also doubles up as a dining area, a large lounge and dining room and an outside lounge area which is adjacent to the swimming pool. All the guest areas overlook a waterhole where a huge variety of wildlife can be viewed from the pool areas and the comfort of easy chairs.
Accommodation is in cosy and comfortable en- suite chalets with modern shower, basin and western commode. Electricity is provided during most parts of the day by means of a solar powered generator.
