Mount Meru, the topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park, has spectacular landscapes and varied species of flora and fauna.
The shadowy montane forest is close to the entrance gate and is inhabited by the inquisitive blue monkeys, colourful turacos and trogons – the only place on the northern safari circuit where the black-and-white colobus monkey is easily spotted.
The spectacular Ngurdoto Crater is in the middle of this forest with steep, rocky cliffs enclosing a wide marshy floor dotted with herds of buffalo and warthog.
